Kofax Makes Proof of Identity Possible Through Image Capture

Since the first camera phone became smart, application developers have worked ceaselessly to combine the power of wireless mobility with image capturing. These efforts have brought us mobile sharing apps such as Instagram and Snapchat that allow us to share on the go. But it’s not all play and no work. Smartphone cameras also ushered in a new era of online banking in which we can instantaneously deposit checks by simply taking a picture of it, or check our account balances in line at the store. And it doesn’t stop there.

Kofax Limited—a software provider based in California dedicated to simplifying customer interactions—has created a mobile capture framework that allows users to establish proof of identity with their smartphone’s camera; and no, it does not involve taking selfies.

Mobile ID by Kofax works by allowing users to photograph a driver’s license, passport, national identity card or credit card. The information that matters is then extracted and submitted to Kofax TotalAgility, which is the company’s central application. This process works in all 50 states and on nearly any mobile device, including tablets and smartphones.

In terms of day-to-day life, Mobile ID provides users with a simplified means for paying bills, applying for loans, opening new accounts for phone or cable, and a variety of other processes that are encumbered by the need for critical information. The process also streamlines the system for the organizations that require access to this information, including service providers, banks, utility companies, and more.

From the consumer’s perspective, Mobile ID provides convenience. No scanning or uploading is necessary, and all you have to worry about is finding your paperwork, and making sure there is enough light for the photo.  As witnessed through the proliferation of mobile online banking, people appreciate convenience.

But for the organizations obtaining information, it means so much more. The first step in providing many services is identity verification. By offering a user-friendly, secure, framework for streamlining a tedious but necessary step—an apt description of everything you will ever do at the DMV—companies can expect one less hiccup in the nascent stages of a customer relationship. As with many things in life, the earliest customer interactions are the most pivotal. Everyone wants to make a strong first impression, and in the business world, you never get a second chance.

Sure, many of us are patient enough to go through the traditional hoops, but mobile technology is speeding up our daily pace of life, and as it continues to do so, consumers will flock to the most streamlined processes.  As an early innovation, Mobile ID might not make or break a businesses, but it could become an industry standard in the near future.

Such is the nature of customer service innovation.
