KFC Now Serving Wireless Tray Typer: Keeps Your Smartphone Grease Free

We’ve seen some intriguing marketing pushes from KFC in the works, including the reinstatement of Colonel Sanders as a poster boy, and a large-breasted, sexy chicken nugget that will “make it boneless for you <3”.

But the KFC Tray Typer unveiled in Germany represents the first campaign that combines functionality with ad finesse. This high-tech fast-food marketing campaign may be—dare I say—brilliant.

As far as first-world problems go, greasy fingers while eating fried chicken are high on the list—they tear smartphone users from their screens, or worse, leave them with no recourse but to text and browse using nothing more than their pinkies.

But by wirelessly connecting to a paper-thin Bluetooth keyboard placed over dining trays, KFC lovers can now commence voracious consumption of fried chicken and biscuits without having to sacrifice smartphone usage.

The wireless keyboard tray is a failsafe for greasy fingers and allows fast-foodies to continue texting, browsing, and most importantly, sharing on social media.

And this is where KFC really butters its biscuit. According to GIZMODO, geolocated social interactions soared with the inclusion of the wireless keyboard trays—everyone and their fried-chicken loving grandmother was geo-tagging on social media. Who knew that greasy fingers could make such a difference for online marketing?

Apparently Gute Wenbung and KFC did. The chicken company has not announced any intentions to extend the program beyond Germany. Doing so could temporarily improve global geo-tagging, and if KFC turned wireless tray keyboards into a permanent amenity, other fast-food restaurants might be forced to take similar measures to compete on social media.

This much is for sure: Colonel Sanders and Sexy Chicken Nugget have nothing on the KFC Tray Typer.
