The Vela Bike: Pedaling Into the Future

If you are tired of sitting in traffic, sick of high gas prices, or if you are environmentally conscious and trying to make the small difference where you can, say hello to the Vela Electric Urban Cruiser bike. You might be saying to yourself, what bike needs a title that long? But the Vela is not just any bike. At first glance, it might be a classic, sleek design fit for an easy joyride. Look again.

People in urban settings are looking for new methods of commuting to work, especially as we realize the environmental repercussions of driving and public transport. One popular option is biking, as it is faster than walking and also slightly less physically taxing. So why splurge on the Vela (which rings in at $999 per bike) when you could purchase any old bike? Here are a few reasons that might make you invest.

The Vela is first of all beautiful. It comes in wine red, vanilla, blue, and Brazilian green, and all of its impressive inner workings are hidden inside its Chromoly steel frame. Its details and grips are made with waterproof brown leather. And while this is impressive, the bike’s comfort has not been sacrificed for its style. The Vela has aluminum handlebars, which direct the majority of the rider’s weight into the wide, leather seat that boasts chrome springs. Its wider tires also contribute to the comfort of the user.

For those of you who aren’t sold on the Vela’s visual aesthetics, its features will blow you away. The Vela is an electric bike (it uses a removable battery) that is equipped to travel at least 20 miles on a single charge, and recharging it only takes 90 minutes. If you need to charge your phone on the way to work, fear not, for the Vela has a waterproof main panel with a USB charging port, battery LED indicator, and charging port. If you are afraid that such a purchase might be easily stolen, again, there is no need to worry. The Vela has a sophisticated anti-theft alarm system that can be remote controlled with sound alarms, and on top of this, it can utilize GPS. This means that users can track their bikes using the Google Maps system on their iOS or Android devices. Finally, the bike has a Pure Pedal Assist System that can reach speeds of up to 20 mph, all while eliminating throttles, switches, settings and wires. All of this weighs in at about 42 lbs.

This is without a doubt a luxurious bike, with a price to match. However, if you are going to make biking your mode of transportation, the Vela is definitely worth it. Like most environmental upgrades (solar panels, wind turbines, etc.), this bike has a large upfront fee, but the benefits are sure to pay off in the end.
