Rumor Says Two Screen Sizes in Store for Samsung Galaxy S7

Samsung aficionados are excited over the rumor that has emerged about the next-generation Galaxy smartphone. The Galaxy is the company's top of the line smartphone and with each successive version that comes out, new features regularly make their way into the final product. Not only is it a leading phone for the company, the phone is a leader in the market that is perhaps the biggest competitor to the Apple iPhone.

The timing of Samsung’s announcements are typically centered on challenging Apple in some way. This rumor has Samsung putting out two phone sizes, much like the latest iPhone 6 models. For now, the platform is logically being called the Galaxy S7, and will come in 5.2 inch and 5.5 inch sizes. These are planned to be major phones that are on the extreme end of capabilities across the board, on par with the top of the line phones in the business.

Reuters originated the report, which gives it some level of veracity, particularly with a mentioned February launch date. According to Ukranian tech blogger Ivan Luchkov, Samsung may be holding an event to reveal the phone just days ahead of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Reuters also says that Samsung is planning to manufacture 3.3 million of the smaller models versus 1.6 million of the larger model, which boasts curved features.

Most industry watchers believe the S7 will have similar features and design to the S6 model. The major differences are believed to come down to specs, such as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, memory, a possible USB Type-C port, and the possible return of a microSD card slot. Samsung may introduce an iris scanner and a touch-sensitive screen (similar to the iPhone 6S 3D .

The Korean company has had tremendous success with these well-reviewed phones. Samsung is locked in a virtual tug of war with Apple and its leading products. Market share is also being challenged by very capable competitors in the Android marketplace that come out of China.
