Huawei Firewall Solutions Achieve Common Criteria EAL4+ Certification

Chinese information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider Huawei this week made a significant announcement regarding the security and reliability of its next generation firewall products. In particular, the company’s Unified Security Gateway (USG) and Eudemon series of firewall solutions have been awarded Common Criteria (CC) certification at Evaluation Assurance Level 4+ (EAL4+).

Epoche and Espri, an independent European security evaluation organization that provides security evaluation and testing services, conducted the evaluation. EAL4+ is currently the highest assurance level recognized throughout the globe for networking products, meaning it has a more rigorous evaluation procedure than other levels, including a product code review.

CC is a set of security product evaluation specifications used internationally for IT security products, while the Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL) is a grading system used to evaluate an IT product or system after completing a CC security evaluation.

In December, Huawei entered into a collaboration with Mesosphere to create a Cloud Foundry open source framework dubbed the CloudFoundry-Mesos. The open source offering is available on GitHub and is the result of integrating Huawei’s framework with Mesosphere’s Datacenter Operating System (DCOS).

“Achieving CC EAL4+ certification means our firewall products have been rigorously tested and evaluated to the highest standards,” said Liu Lizhu, vice president, Switch & Enterprise Communications Product Line, Huawei. “This certification provides governments and enterprises with further assurance of the security, reliability and integrity of Huawei's firewall products. We have been investing in the security field for over 10 years and will continue to provide world-class security solutions to help customers address the fast-changing threat landscape.”

USG and Eudemon firewall series are Huawei’s flagship products in the network security domain. They feature comprehensive security functions, easy-to-use management, refined control and QoS improvement capabilities. The result is comprehensive, efficient and unified security protection suitable for enterprises, organizations and carriers of any size.
