Comings & Goings: Digital Turbine Appoints Mohan Gyani to Board

Digital Turbine, a developer of software for mobile operators and application publishers, recently announced that it has appointed a new member of its board of directors.

Mohan Gyani has taken the position as an independent director on the Digital Turbine Board. This appointment comes on the tail of his becoming president and CEO of Sift Media, a digital media publisher in which Digital Turbine has a financial stake. In both these positions, it pays for Gyani to have his expertise and knowledge of the mobile industry and his previous experience of sitting on other boards and heading other companies – most notably AT&T Wireless.

Gyani commented that he has been successful by anticipating what will come next in the markets he serves. He indicated that Digital Turbine has an eye for that talent as well and that it should be able to properly assist operators as the mobile market marches forward.

“In my career, I have concentrated on leading businesses into new frontiers by anticipating the impact of technology shifts and by being prepared to deliver on the fundamental changes these would have on customers’ needs,” Gyani said. “The growth in mobile applications is dramatically changing how consumers live their lives, especially considering the massive adoption of smartphones and tablets. In Digital Turbine, I see an industry leader that is at the intersection of this trend.”

As previously noted, Gyani most immediately came from a career as the president and CEO of AT&T Wireless Mobility Services and an advisor to AT&T Wireless following three years in that position, which began in 2000. Other past positions included work at AirTouch Communications and Pacific Telesis Group where he took several positions in both finance and operations. He continues to be an investor and advisor at Primera Capital and now runs Sift Media. His other board appointments include a present positions at Mobileum, Ruckus Wireless, Blackhawk Network Holdings, IDEA Cellular.

His long resume stands impressive and has clearly had a positive impact on Digital Turbine officials who have appointed him to the board of their own company. Rob Deutschman, the chairman of Digital Turbine, commented that Gyani is expected to bring perspective to the company that will help it navigate the future of mobile trends.
