RIM Intros Three New BlackBerry Smartphones with HTML5 Capabilities

Research In Motion announced the launch of three new BlackBerry smartphones that feature the BlackBerry 7 Operating System (OS).

The new devices – BlackBerry Curve 9350, BlackBerry Curve 9360 and BlackBerry Curve 9370 –will further enhance the latest offerings to the BlackBerry series.

These new models can serve the needs of the global mobile phone market where customers are moving forward from their feature phone or existing BlackBerry Curve. It will also satisfy customers who need an affordable alternative that is easy-to-use, full-featured and is also a socially-connected smartphone, according to company officials.

Mike Lazaridis, president and co-CEO at Research In Motion, said in a statement, “These new models will build on the incredible success of the BlackBerry Curve line and further expand the largest global launch of BlackBerry smartphones in our history.”

“The new BlackBerry Curve smartphones are absolutely stunning and offer a significant performance upgrade with an unmatched mobile social experience for the millions of feature phone users in the market as well as our existing Curve customers,” Lazaridis added.

The new BlackBerry Curve smartphones are ergonomically designed with a comfortable and iconic keyboard and an optical trackpad for easy, one-handed navigation.   GPS and Wi-Fi support, a 5MP camera with flash and video recording are other features of the devices.   The microSD/SDHC slot supports up to 32 GB memory cards for ensuring more media storage, said officials.

The new BlackBerry Curve smartphones support the new BlackBerry 7 OS and feature powerful hardware enhancements like upgraded processors, displays and memory, and built-in support for NFC (Near Field Communications). NFC is a new technology that is capable of pairing accessories or read SmartPoster tags easily.

The latest release of BBM or BlackBerry Messenger comes pre-loaded on the devices and it now extends the real time BBM experience to other apps, such as Foursquare. This allows users to easily interact with each other from within the ‘BBM connected’ app.

Officials added that the BlackBerry 7 launches a BlackBerry browser which synergizes the performance of the advanced WebKit browser engine with the hardware enhancements in the new BlackBerry Curve smartphones to deliver a faster and more fluid Web browsing experience.  Other enhancements in this BlackBerry browser enable smoother navigation and optimized HTML5 performance for enriching gaming and video experiences.

In related news the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies announced The Classic Car Guide for BlackBerry phones that provide real-time data about collector vehicle values that can help both buyers and sellers make informed decisions. The app was made available earlier this year for the iPad, iPhone and Android-based phones.
