Global LTE Macro Base Station Deployments to Reach 1.5 Million by 2015: In-Stat

The increasing battle to gain footing in LTE base station deployment has attracted many suitors, both large and small. In-Stat, in new research, is forecasting that the total number of LTE macro base station deployments will reach the 1.5 million mark by 2015, with Ericsson claiming the top position and Huawei and Alcatel-Lucent hot on Ericsson’s heels. “Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent have become the early LTE leaders as a result of modernization contracts with Verizon and AT&T. Nokia-Siemens Networks recently claimed a prestigious contract win with Telecom Italia,” said Chris Kissel, Analyst, in a release. “Huawei has won both A1 Telekom and T-Mobile in Austria. Samsung has been instrumental in the MetroPCS LTE launch and will be a major factor in South Korea as their LTE market comes online.”  The research findings include:

  • Ericsson is the clear market leader through 2014. However, in 2015, four cellular infrastructure vendors will realize $2 billion or more in revenues from LTE RAN equipment sales.
  • In 2015, as Asia Pacific countries deploy LTE in earnest, Ericsson, Huawei, Alcatel-Lucent, and Nokia Siemens will all have at least 10 percent of newly deployed LTE macro base station shipments in 2015.
  • In the years 2011-2015, LTE RAN revenues will grow at a CAGR of 41 percent.
  • The top five vendors in global LTE EPC/router/gateways in 2012 will be Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, Ericsson, Huawei, and Nokia Siemens Networks.
  • Alcatel-Lucent will dominate the LTE packet backhaul infrastructure space in Central and Latin America in 2012, with Cisco and Ericsson assuming the #2 and #3 positions.

New In-Stat research, LTE Infrastructure Rankings, by Vendor, by Mobile Operator or Service Provider, 2009-2015 (#IN1105057GW) details the LTE RAN infrastructure CAPEX for macro base stations, re-purposed base stations, IP packet backhaul, and evolved packet core categories.

The research findings include:

  • LTE subscriptions and LTE POP by country is presented from 2009-2015.
  • CAPEX considers LTE deployments from 2009 through 2015.
  • 167 primary mobile operators plus 20 additional “rest of” markets are covered.
  • LTE RAN spending by mobile operator and by cellular infrastructure vendor is estimated.
  • Revenue estimates are made for Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia Siemens, Alcatel-Lucent, ZTE, Samsung, NEC, Cisco, Juniper, and Tellabs.

In-Stat’s market intelligence combines technical, market and end-user research and database models to analyze the Mobile Internet and Digital Entertainment ecosystems.
