XO Communications Teams with Sprint to Deliver MVNO Wireless Services

XO Communications, a provider of advanced IP communications, managed network and IT infrastructure solutions, announced that it has selected Sprint Wholesale Solutions, in order to deliver mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) Wireless services to XO.

Under the terms of the agreement, Sprint will deliver its Wholesale Mobile Integration (WMI) services to converge wireline and wireless services into one conjoined solution. With this, XO Communications will be able to offer mobile wireless and Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) solutions to business customers.

XO Communications will be utilizing Sprint'sWMI services and wireless network to offer businesses with multiple mobile wireless communications services, such as an FMC solution.

The WMI service from Sprint will facilitate telecommunications service provider customers such as XO Communications to integrate their wireline and wireless voice networks into one converged solution for business customers by extending Private Branch Exchange (PBX) or VoIP features to the wireless handset.

Offering communication companies with the ability to deliver a simplified, effective and seamless communications experience, Sprint's WMI service features single-number calling to reach both an employee's desk and mobile phone; call transfer between two devices; one integrated voicemail platform; and more.

In addition, Sprint's WMI also extends a wide range of business desk phone features to an end-user's mobile device like abbreviated (four-digit) extension dialing, call center applications, selective call acceptance/rejection, and more.

The deal, which includes Sprint's WMI services to converge wireline and wireless services into one conjoined solution, also includes pricing and provisions, thereby enabling XO Communications to deploy 4G products and services for its small- and medium-sized business (SMB) customers.

Officials with XO said in a press release that the XO FMC solution will facilitate businesses to take advantage of fixed mobile convergence and their increasing deployment of VoIP, SIP trunking and in-building WiFi networks to deliver greater productivity, reduced mobile call costs and improved communications for employees.

As part of the deal, calls made from mobile phones within a customer's premise will be connected via WiFi access points and will be routed over existing wireline network infrastructure, as a future capability of the XO solution. However, when outside the office, the mobile device will work like a regular mobile phone, thereby providing wide coverage through the Sprint wireless network.

According to the release, XO Communications expects to launch the service commercially in mid-2012.

In recent news as reported by MobilityTechzone, XO Enterprise Cloud Communications was awarded with 2010 Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award by TMC.
