The Super WiFi Summit in Miami Helps Service Providers Understand and Capitalize on New Opportunities Associated with the White Space Spectrum

Event Also Features Expanded Content Dedicated to Device Manufacturers, Enterprises and Consumers

Norwalk, CT – October 20, 2011 – TMC and Crossfire Media today announced that the The Super WiFi Summit will be collocated with ITEXPO and 4GWE February 1-3, 2012 at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The Summit helps service providers, device manufacturers, enterprises and consumers understand the new opportunities associated with the use of White Spaces for mobile broadband applications. This spectrum, previously associated with the open white space channels necessary for analog TV, is now available for use as unlicensed spectrum.

“In the span of just 10 years, WiFi evolved from an obscure and unused technology to a ubiquitous offering that now supports more than 250 million WiFi access devices,” said Crossfire Media’s Carl Ford. “Unlike many LTE solutions that face the issue of decreasing coverage to increase the throughput, White Spaces represent an opportunity to increase coverage compared to existing WiFi. The Super WiFi Summit is the one place to learn about the business, technical, and political issues that are shaping the spectrum’s role in the mobile broadband ecosystem.”

The complete conference agenda will be announced in the weeks ahead. TMC and Crossfire Media are pleased to announce that many of the established leaders in white space technologies – including Carlson Wireless, Neul and Spectrum Bridge – are participating at the summit, where they will provide an update on their newly announced white space radio networking system. Additionally the Database companies are participating which brings companies like Google and Microsoft, Nuestar and Telcordia into the mix with many other companies such as Keybridge and Spectrum bridge.

In addition to driving down the costs of consumer broadband access, the white space spectrum also provides new opportunities for device manufacturers, as a diverse set of applications can use the unlicensed spectrum - including wireless routers, Bluetooth devices, baby monitors, garage door openers, remote controls, cordless telephones, Wi-Fi hotspots, security alarms, and a variety of M2M communications-based products.  Further details on conference content dedicated to device manufacturers will be available in the weeks ahead.

“In today’s multi-media world, more viewers are turning off the television set and tuning into the Web. The White Space spectrum can help local content providers stay relevant by providing an alternate access method with new bundled services that offer more localized content than what’s available through the national Internet sites,” added Carl Ford. “We talk about the twilight of the public telephone network, but the local TV station is probably more frustrated by the impact of the Internet.”

Registration for the Super WiFi Summit is now open. Sponsorship, branding and advertising opportunities are available for Super WiFi, and interested parties should contact Matthew Gleeson at 203.852.6800 ext. 145. Members of the media can reserve media credentials by contacting Todd Keefe at For Immediate Release PR.
