Altair Semiconductor Uses Green Hills Software to Develop its 4G LTE Products

Altair Semiconductor, a premier LTE chip supplier has recently selected Green Hills’ compilers, the Green Hills Probe and MULTI development tool chain, for the development of its 4G LTE products.

Founded in 1982, Green Hills Software is the largest independent vendor of embedded software solutions.

“We selected Green Hills Software after conducting an extensive analysis of the solutions in the market,” said Nohik Semel, vice president of systems engineering, Altair Semiconductor, in a release.

“The Green Hills compilers showed excellent performance and memory footprint, which was particularly important for us given the speed and power constraints imposed by 4G systems. The hardware and software tools have helped us considerably in the development of the firmware for our products.”

Altair is the premier developer of ultra-low power, small footprint and high performance 4G LTE chipsets for the 4G wireless broadband technology LTE.

Officials said that the company’s product portfolio utilizes cores from MIPS Technologies, includes baseband processors, multi-band RF transceivers and a range of reference hardware and product level protocol stack software.

Christopher Smith, vice president of marketing, Green Hills Software, commented, “The next generation of wireless communication technologies operates at data rates and bandwidths that put increasing demands on semiconductor and system developers. In order to optimize the performance and power consumption of the components, it is important to develop the most efficient code possible in the shortest time. This is where Green Hills Software's development tool chain has a proven track record across a broad range of applications.”

In related news, Green Hills Software and SafeNet, Inc. have announced security technology collaboration agreement. The new alliance will focus on integration of SafeNet's hardware security modules with Green Hills Microkernel and virtualization solutions for embedded and mobile markets.

The integrations enable secure communications, data protection, and authentication on embedded and mobile devices, such as smartphones.
