Verizon Launches Its 4G LTE Network in 11 New Markets throughout the US

4G Long Term Evolution wireless networks have brought unprecedented levels of high speed access to video, audio or multimedia content in a smooth and streamlined manner. Telecommunications operators worldwide have been either upgrading or adding the 4G LTE network to their existing network offerings.

Verizon Wireless, a provider of wireless telecommunications services and solutions, has announced to offer its 4G Long Term Evolution services in 11 new markets and expanding the services in seven existing markets. With the new development, 200 million people in 190 markets across the United States will now be able to enjoy the high speed 4G services of the company.

Providing its services to 107.7 million total wireless connections, including 90.7 million retail customers, the Basking Ridge, N.J. based Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon Communications and Vodafone. Additionally, the company also offers support for a range of 4G LTE-enabled devices, such as notebooks and netbooks; hotspots and modems; smartphones and tablets. Recently Motorola had launched two DROID XYBOARD tablets that are supported by the Verizon Wireless 4G network.

Effective since December 15, 2011, the 4G LTE network of Verizon Wireless will be available to the residents of:  Dover, Del.; Lafayette, Ind.; Fitchburg/Leominster, Mass.; Duluth, The Rochester Area and St. Cloud, Minn.; Manchester/Nashua, N.H.; Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; Findlay/Tiffin and Youngstown/Warren, Ohio; and Indiana, Pa. Additionally, 4G network of the company within the regions of San Diego and San Francisco; Washington, D.C.; Savannah, Ga.; Chicagoland, Ill.; and Baltimore and Hagerstown, Md. will be expanded since the same date.

“Introducing the 4G LTE network has been the fastest rollout of any next-generation network in our history. In one year and 10 days, we have brought 4G LTE to more than 200 million people. That’s more than twice as fast as our 3G network rollout,” commented David Small, chief technical officer of Verizon Wireless.

The 4G LTE network of Verizon Wireless typically offers an average data rate of five to twelve megabits per second on the downlink and two to five Mbps on the uplink within a fully loaded network environment. Also, when a Verizon Wireless customer moves outside of an area covered by the 4G LTE network, his connection automatically gets converted into the 3G mode, which ensures a seamless and smooth connectivity to all its users.

Previously this month, Verizon Wireless and WellPoint announced a digital initiative that utilizes secure video conferencing through Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network to help consumers take steps to live healthier. The company said the collaboration represents the approach both companies have undertaken to advance healthcare-related services by enabling seamless, virtual dialogue between consumers who are members of a WellPoint-affiliated health plan and their nurse care managers, all from the convenience of a 4G LTE mobile device.
