Sprint Announces First Cities to Get 4G LTE in 2012

When it comes to smartphone performance, there aren’t a whole lot of horizons to reach anymore. Phones can do almost everything from very basic tasks like placing a call to the more complicated ones like automatically reserving a table at your favorite restaurant. The one horizon which not every smartphone or cellular provider has crossed is the LTE or 4G speed of data transmission. It appears that this is indeed the next big thing. With more people using their smartphones to browse the web, more users want faster page loading and download speeds.

LTE and 4G are becoming so popular like as Saudi Arabia are starting to see a greater demand. Here in the US, most of the cellular providers haven’t exactly been quick on the draw when it comes to rolling out these higher speeds to their customers. While there has been a bit of a lag, American companies are seeing a need to go ahead and give their customers this speed boost.

To that end, Sprint has just announced a new swath of major markets that will be receiving 4G LTE and even better 3G wireless service. Sprint CEO Dan Hesse announced that Dallas, San Antonio, Houston and Atlanta will be among the first cities to get the 4G LTE and upgraded 3G service in 2012. Sprint has said that the launch of this upgraded service is the next in a multi-step rollout plan that the company has dubbed “Sprint Vision.”

Sprint says that customers in these areas will see better signal strength when they are inside a building and will see less drag when watching a movie or playing a game over the wireless network. The Sprint Vision plan calls for the eventual rollout of these of upgraded centers to all of their towers in the next few years. According to the company, additional rollouts are expected for later in 2012 and announcements will be made. Once the upgrades are finished, Sprint says their customers should see immediate improvement in their voice and data transmission.
