Qualcomm and Microsoft to Showcase Snapdragon S4 Processors for Windows 8

Qualcomm along with Microsoft is planning to deliver Snapdragon S4 processors that feature LTE connectivity support for Windows 8.

Qualcomm recently unveiled the Snapdragon S4 Liquid, a mobile development platform powered by the MSM8960 S4 chip that features 1366x768 display and dual front-facing cameras capable of shooting 1080p video, as well as two rear-facing cameras that record in 3D.

At the 2012’s CES, the Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 reference hardware tablet was tweaked to operate over the soon to be released Windows 8 OS, the demonstration was conducted over AT&T’s 4G LTE network. The test showed how the blended features of Microsoft and Qualcomm were able to bring down power consumption while enabling users to enjoy faster wireless broadband speeds and advanced connectivity solutions.

Qualcomm says that it is excited to be working with Microsoft to showcase the world's first demonstration of Windows 8 powered by its Snapdragon platform with LTE connectivity on the AT&T 4G LTE network. Microsoft and other device manufacturers will be able to leverage the company’s Snapdragon S4 processors' LTE network support and comprehensive software and hardware integration to realize greater flexibility and connectivity options. Qualcomm S4 processors are capable of delivering higher processing performance, efficient power usage and reliable wireless connectivity all over a single platform.

Officials with Microsoft remarked that Qualcomm's technologies help bring high-performance, power-efficient solutions to consumers. In many cases today's consumers and businesses not only desire but require always- on, always-connected computing devices. Qualcomm and Microsoft are committed to this continued collaboration to bring innovative, top-performing devices to consumers around the world.

AT&T acknowledged that Qualcomm’s chipsets are capable of catering to the users’ demands for faster connectivity and easier access to networks. AT&T hopes that along with Qualcomm its 3G and LTE networks will be able to enhance mobile PCs and tablets’ user experience.
