Acacia Subsidiary Buys ADAPTIX

Acacia Research Corporation, a provider of capital and management assistance and investment advisory service, revealed the acquisition of ADAPTIX, Inc., a developer of 4G technologies for wireless systems, by its subsidiary.

The deal, as stated, was signed for $160 million.

“ADAPTIX has been on the forefront of developing next-generation wireless communications for the past 11 years,” Paul Ryan, chief technology officer at Acacia said in a press release.

“Acacia’s acquisition provides our shareholders with a great opportunity to participate in the worldwide growth of 4G wireless technologies as Acacia continues to expand its patent licensing business,” Ryan added.

Headquartered in Carrollton, Texas, ADAPTIX is a Baker Capital portfolio company. Its early research and development of OFDMA technology eventually resulted in an intellectual property portfolio that addresses 4G requirements of today. Other inventions of the company include MIMO and its integration with OFDMA. In 2006, ADAPTIX demonstrated its pioneering equipment at the WiMAX World Expo and won its "Best in Show" Award. The following year, ADAPTIX was named as one of the "Fierce 15" by FierceBroadbandWireless.

With its rapidly growing portfolio of 230 issued and pending patents in 13 countries, ADAPTIX has been working to license the intellectual property stemming from years of investment in Broadstorm's and ADAPTIX's pioneering research and development efforts.

Acacia Research Corporation’s subsidiaries control over 200 patent portfolios, covering technologies used in a wide variety of industries. The company recently announced that its Chalumeau Power Systems subsidiary entered into a license agreement with Enterasys Networks covering patents generally relating to Power Over Ethernet technology. MobilityTechzone reported that the agreement resolved litigation that was pending in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware with respect to certain Enterasys products.

Also, Acacia through its subsidiary, Lambda Optical Solutions, LLC recently entered into a license agreement with Nokia Siemens Networks Oy, a Finland-based communications services company.
