RNCOS Report Examines State of Global WiMAX Market

RNCOS, an industrial research firm, recently published a report titled "Global WiMAX Market Analysis," providing insight into WiMAX and its  global market performance.

The firm found that service providers and technology dealers have made viable commitments to the WiMAX (World Interoperability for Microwave Access) technology.

After analyzing factors enhancing the growth of WiMAX technology in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) and Middle East and Asia (MEA) regions, RNCOS concluded that increased demand for faster Internet access, a large subscriber base and inadequate broadband infrastructure are drivers.

The firm also found that, due to low infrastructure and high populations, there is strong potential for WiMAX deployment growth in developing countries such as China, India and Russia. Well-built cell infrastructure, intense competition, and a strong presence of 3G services are factors stunting the growth of WiMAX deployments in Europe.

RNCOS also reported that there is an insignificant price different between WiMAX and DSL technologies, the result being that cost isn’t a determining factor when customer choose one technology over the other.

The 3.5 GHz licensed spectrums could represent the biggest opportunities in current WiMAX markets, RNCOS said.

Infrastructure and device vendors, as well as chipset vendors are key players in the WiMAX market. RNCOS named Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia Siemens Networks, Nortel, Airspan Networks, Navini Networks, Fujitsu Limited, Alvarion Limited and Redline Communications as major WiMAX players on the infrastructure/device side. Major chipset vendors include Intel, Motorola and Samsung Electronics.
