WiChorus, ZyXEL Complete Interop Testing of ASN Gateway and WiMAX Base Station

WiChorus, a provider of a scalable core platform for 4G networks, and ZyXEL Communications, a residential gateway provider in Taiwan, have succesfully completed interoperability testing for their respective products. The testing involved WiChorus’ ASN gateway and ZyXEL's WiMAX base station.

Proven intoperoperability between the two product lines is part of a larger initiative to bring more flexibility for mobile operators when they set about picking equipment, and prevent service providers from getting locked into proprietary solutions that limit functionality and escalate costs, the two companies said.

WiChorus and its One Open WiMAX partners are working to transform a traditionally closed wireless core into an open, horizontal model that spurs innovation and competition and provides more choices for carriers.

“By working directly with major broadband technology suppliers like ZyXEL, WiChorus has facilitated the adoption of a single open R6 interface that gives operators the choice and flexibility needed to deploy profitable WiMAX networks,” said Rehan Jalil, president and CEO of WiChorus, in a statement.

WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) was developed to provide a common framework for wireless connectivity in fixed, portable, and mobile environments. WiMAX is a scalable wireless access technology designed to provide high throughput over long distances. It offers the high-speed connection of broadband while significantly reducing deployment costs associated with laying fiber and extending it to buildings. WiMAC has a range that far exceeds WiFi.
