Lenovo Unveils ThinkPad X301 Notebook, WiMax Version to Become Available

Lenovo is introducing its ThinkPad X301 notebook PC, promising consumers cutting-edge features and technologies in a thin and light device that’s as light as three pounds and thin as one inch.

Company officials say significant improvements to the ThinkPad X301 include its data storage capacity. While the original X300 offered a 64GB SSD, the X301 offers a choice of either an 80GB or 128GB SSD. The X301 will also have DisplayPort and VGA video ports to support multiple displays. Lenovo also says its improved Power Manager gives users more control over notebook functions to enable longer battery life.

Lenova says the ThinkPad X301 notebook starts at approximately $2,600. The notebook will be available on August 26 through Lenovo Business Partners and online. Models supporting WiMAX will be available later this year, according to the company.

According to Lenovo, the ThinkPad X301 notebook will provide 20 percent better performance with latest DDR3 memory and the Intel Core 2 Duo ultra low volt processor when compared to previous ThinkPad X300 notebook.

Lenovo “continues to push the technology envelope by giving road warriors the latest enhancements in solid state drive storage and digital display technologies with the new ThinkPad X301 notebook PC,” according to Sam Dusi, a vice president at the company. “This announcement extends our commitment to blending ultraportability and functionality, and equipping today’s business users with the most advanced, highest-performing computing tools.”

The notebook also includes Lenovo’s ThinkVantage Technologies, hardware-software tools designed to maximize user productivity. New support for display port gives better visibility for high definition content with multiple display option. It’s ideal for models with ultra thin DVD burner, company officials say

The ThinkPad X301 notebook includes models with high-speed mobile broadband and WiFi to connect wirelessly to the Internet, and also with Bluetooth and Ultra-Wideband technology to connect wirelessly to other devices, Lenovo says. Its improved uplink performance with AT&T mobile broadband and GPS allow travellers to navigate a user-friendly interface and can easily access Internet and network connections.

Its environmentally responsible design and 13.3-inch LED backlit display, solid state drive storage and other energy-efficient technologies help the PC achieve a “Gold” rating from the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool.
