ADC Intros FlexWave Mobile WiMAX Solutions

ADC will introduce its FlexWave Mobile WiMAX product family at the WiMAX World 2008 show, which is being held Tuesday and Wednesday in Chicago’s McCormick Place.

FlexWave allows wireless operators to place a base station wherever coverage is needed – in any terrain or within any infrastructure – bringing carriers reduced infrastructure deployment, operational and facility costs over traditional WiMAX equipment. The Minnesota-based company will be displaying the solution in Booth 933.

“With its high throughput, WiMAX has the potential to deliver true mobile broadband service built in a well-known, IP-based infrastructure,” said Todd Schieffert, program director for ADC. “The FlexWave MMX platform offers significant cost-to-deploy and time-to-deploy benefits. Since the MMX is an all outdoor-hardened base station, it eliminates the need for secondary enclosures with their associated months to build, and incremental costs. The flexibility of the FlexWave solution also allows networks to be constructed quickly which translates into faster-time-to revenue for the wireless operators.”

FlexWave MMX solutions are hardened, “place anywhere” 802.16e WiMAX base stations that deliver up to 40mbps per sector. The FlexWave MMX products are available as a single-sector base station, or multi-sector base station in a single chassis, and as a Pico base station.

This mobile WiMAX solution includes a full line of subscriber stations, ranging from outdoor units, indoor units with voice, data, and WiFi capabilities to PC cards and USB dongles for laptop users. ADC also offers multiple backhaul options for FlexWave MMX, including Ethernet, IP microwave, millimeter wave, and fiber backhaul connectivity.

FlexWave MMX solutions feature the WiChorus Intelligent ASN Gateway as part of the offering. The WiChorus ASN Gateway, located at the core of the WiMAX network, aggregates high-capacity base stations, while ensuring line rate QoS, accounting and security for millions of subscriber service flows.

Other items will be showcased at the event, including ADC’s newly-announced LoopStar EtherNID demarcation unit. This in-line service assurance solution offers a complete range of performance monitoring, Ethernet OAM, and Ethernet service creation functionalities.

ADC provides the connections for wireline, wireless, cable, broadcast, and enterprise networks around the world. ADC’s innovative network infrastructure equipment and professional services enable high-speed Internet, data, video, and voice services to residential, business and mobile subscribers.
