Rohde & Schwarz and Runcom Launch WiMAX Test Solution

Runcom Technologies, a company that develops and supplies fixed and mobile Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) solutions, and Rohde & Schwarz, a global provider of wireless communications test and measurement solutions, announced the launch of a WiMAX mass production test solution for mobile stations.

The new test solution, named as Rohde & Schwarz R&S CMW270, is based on Runcom’s Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) technology.

The new WiMAX communication tester simultaneously calibrates Runcom’s mobile stations over both the Tx and Rx paths, and verifies the mobile stations’ compliance with the WiMAX standard IEEE802.16e-2005, so that the device is ready to market.

The R&S CMW270 combines a non-signaling mode, for high-speed RF alignment in production and a signaling mode with a base station emulator for testing mobile devices in simulated network conditions.

The testing solution offers continuous frequency range for all WiMAX band classes up to 6 GHz. It also allows real-time signaling for testing WiMAX customer premise equipments (CPEs) in simulated network conditions.

R&S CMW270 features a vector signal analyzer (VSA) for transmitter verification, a vector signal generator (VSG) for expanded receiver testing and an R&S Smart Alignment and R&S Multi-Evaluation concept for non-signaling alignment approaches to reduce test time significantly.

According to Guy Shahak, customer care director at Runcom Technologies, the Rohde & Schwarz R&S CMW270 is an all-in-one test solution that makes high-speed production line tests almost 30 percent faster than a traditional setup.

Runcom provides a variety of OFDMA based components, channel cards, stand-alone units and reference designs for user terminals and fixed and mobile WiMAX base stations that comply with the IEEE802.16e-2005 standard for Wireless Broadband (WiBro) and Mobile WiMAX applications.

Runcom has been selected by Deloitte, a global accounting firm, as the fastest-growing high-tech company in Israel for the 2008 with 8,499 percent growth rate during the five-year period of 2003-2007. Runcom was ranked third in 2007 and 2006.

Rohde & Schwarz supplies solutions in the fields of test and measurement, broadcasting, radio monitoring and radiolocation, as well as secure communications.

“We are looking forward to our collaboration with Runcom,” said Thorsten Brand, business cooperation manager at Rohde & Schwarz.
