LTE on Wheels

The ng connect program has announced the LTE Connected Car, a new concept vehicle designed to show how high bandwidth connectivity can bring a wide range of new capabilities to automobiles. This “smart” device on wheels offers a wide range of navigation, personal security, entertainment and infotainment services to both drivers and passengers alike.

Alcatel-Lucent, Atlantic Records, QNX Software Systems, Toyota Motor Sales, chumby and Kabillion partnered on the development of this project.

LTE Connected Car features independently operated touchscreens coupled with software that provide access to multiple applications and forms of content. The prototype system supports the creation of personalized and interactive connected experiences that can be tailored to the individual preferences and requirements of both drivers and passengers. The vehicle therefore becomes a mobile platform where information can be accessed and transmitted through the use of LTE connectivity and cloud-based applications.

The following entertainment, infotainment, security and driving-related services are foreseen: Video on demand; Gaming; Audio Library; Home control; Enhanced communications services; ecommerce; Wi-Fi hotspot; Advanced Navigation; Enhanced safety plus Road and vehicle monitoring.
