Ubidyne and ZTE Achieve Multi-Standard Active Antenna Systems

Germany-based provider of antenna embedded radio technology Ubidyne has announced the completion of integration of its multi-standard uB900 Antenna Embedded Radio product with ZTE's SDR (Software Defined Radio) basestation platform. Ubidyne now boasts integration with three of the world's top five leading wireless OEMs.

Powered by ZTE unified MicroTCA platform and MCPA technology, ZXSDR 8200 is the new generation compact outdoor micro basestation which adopts advanced SDR technology. This revolutionary platform supports multiple wireless access technologies including GSM, UMTS, CDMA2000 and WiMAX.

"ZTE's growth is accelerating and they have now been recognized as the fourth largest firm in the global wireless communication market,' stated Ken Hawk, CEO of Ubidyne. "By working closely with ZTE, we will be able to rapidly deploy our closely integrated product helping operators across the globe to dramatically reduce their CAPEX and OPEX."

"Multi-RAN distributed basestation sites with Ubidyne's Antenna Embedded Radio, combined with ZTE's SDR technology, offer the highest level of integration possible, dramatically reducing installation and maintenance costs for operators while optimizing network performance for their subscribers," said Dr. Wang, CTO of Radio at ZTE.

The first call with Ubidyne's uB900 Digital Antenna Embedded Radio, connected to the ZTE SDR, took place in May and demonstrated outstanding results. Live demonstrations of the world's first Antenna Embedded Radio with LTE capability will take place at the 3rd NGMN Industry Conference in Shanghai beginning 2 June 2010.

ZTE is the world's 6th largest mobile phone manufacturer and the world's second largest supplier of data cards, according to shipment volumes. The company is known for designing and manufacturing all its products in-house. ZTE's strengths lie in its wireless technologies, R&D capability, and strategic industry partnership. In fact, the company spends 10 percent of annual turnover to research and development.

In recent news, Optimus, a telecommunications operator in Portugal, has selected ZTE Corporation's software define radio (SDR) multi-mode solution, enabling the operator to upgrade its GSM/UMTS network in Portugal and providing a smooth evolution path to LTE.
