Wavelink Releases Avalanche 5.4 with Better Support for iOS, Android

LANDesk Software business unit, Wavelink made available its newest mobile device and wireless infrastructure management software. Called Wavelink Avalanche 5.4, this software addresses the growing integration of traditional ruggedized devices, as well as consumer smart devices, enabling IT professionals to manage, secure and deploy a wide variety of devices and infrastructure components.

Avalanche 5.4 has been made available through traditional on-premise installation, cloud-based SaaS through Avalanche On Demand, and as a hosted offering through Avalanche Managed Services.

"With the latest upgrade to Avalanche, we wanted to empower our customers to choose the mobile devices that work best for them when performing tasks that drive revenue for their business," said Mike Temple, product manager at LANDesk Software, in a statement. "With many organizations now choosing iPads and other consumer products as their device of choice — frequently in conjunction with traditional ruggedized offerings — Avalanche 5.4 permits organizations to securely enable mobile support within an increasingly consumerized mobile workplace from a single console."

Indeed, Avalanche 5.4 features a single console that enables simple enrollment, device configuration, device security policies and remote control management. This helps to reduce the time, cost and risk associated with managing consumer and ruggedized mobile devices, while newly introduced capabilities — optimized support for iOS6 and Android and the ability to deploy applications to users' devices on demand — help to further enhance these benefits.

Of course, the latest version of Avalanche still sports the same award-winning features found in the previous versions of the software, including software and configuration management options, mobile device security, remote help desk, location-based services, alerts and reports, and infrastructure management capabilities.

Earlier this month, Wavelink announced Terminal Emulation (TE) for Android 1.3, offering an enhanced user experience and simplified management on Android devices. Wavelink TE provides reliable access for mobile users to host applications, enabling enterprises to manage and scale business critical apps on mobile devices.
