Tablets and smartphones have both been dominating the headlines as MWC 2013 rolls along. With that being the case, it seems only natural to have a device that is actually a combination of a tablet and a phone grab some headlines as well. It also makes sense that the 5-inch PadFone would get shown off at this year’s Mobile World Conference since the first PadFone made its debut at this event in 2012. All of these little coincidences combined to bring the unveiling of the PadFone Infinity, which is basically being billed as a PadFone 2.5 device.
Along with the five-inch screen, the smartphone part of this hybrid device comes with a screen resolution of 1080p. The phone runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core 1.7GHz processor. The phone has 2GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. Asus is also providing another 50GB of cloud storage. The phone is running the latest Android 4.2 (Jellybean) operating system.
The tablet part of this dynamic duo has a full-HD 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1,920 x 1200 pixels. The device also boasts a built-in 5,000mAh battery. The PadFone Infinity is going to be hitting the market this April and will be coming with a rather hefty $999 price tag.
The PadFone is not the only thing Asus rolled out. There is also a device called the Fonepad. While the PadFone is both a tablet and a smartphone combined, the Fonepad is just a smartphone that boasts a seven-inch screen. This is not a tablet that you can call people using Skype or some other VoIP application. This is actually a device that is made to be a phone first.
The device, which is running Android 4.1 is going to be hitting the Asian market in March and will be coming with a $249 price tag for the 8GB version. There will also be 16GB and 32GB versions that can also be upgraded using microSD cards.
