Transwitch's HDPlay Selected by Sure-Fire for Mobile Video

Transwitch Corporation of Shelton, Conn., is working with Sure-Fire in order to aid mobile video streaming in devices. Sure-Fire has selected Transwitch’s TXC-44151 HDPlay Chip to be a single-chip integrated platform to support multiple video connectivity standards, such as HDMI, DisplayPort, Mobility DisplayPort and MHL, in one chip. The programs are used widely across the range of mobile devices sold, and sometimes sites host content made of different formats, so it is necessary to be able to multitask in a chip.

Because these connectivity standards have been used in various applications across the Web and across mobile devices recently, the ability to adapt to whichever connectivity standard is used is now becoming an industry standard among the companies involved, which comprises TranSwitch and about 200 others, as per the MHL Corporation.

In a report by TechNavio, sales of devices with DisplayPort are expected to go up about 31.6 percent from 2012 to 2016. Video-enabled mobile devices such as smart and feature phones, make up a big share of the market and are expected to increase 16 percent from 2012 to 2016, and tablet sales are expected to increase 23.3 percent in that same time. They may use all, some or none of the above programs listed, so it is necessary for the makers to adapt to what is necessary.

What this chip actually contains is as follows: one MDHP Rx input port, which is a single, multi-mode input port that can support HDMI 1.4b, DisplayPort 1.2, MyDP 1.0 and MHL 2.1, which also has AnyCable technology for the use of long HDMI cables, hardware-based HDCP v1.4 authentification, embedded EDID RAM and CBUS controller, and an audio return channel support. It also sports an output port with HDMI 1.4b output with 3Gbps TDMS for higher resolution formats including support for 3D and 4K-2K, and doesn’t consume too much power when switched off or on standby.
