Budget Tablets Uncovered at CES

More mid-range Android tablets are being unveiled at CES in Las Vegas, as California-based consumer electronics company E FUN has announced details on their newest pair of Nextbook offerings.

The Nextbook 8 and Nextbook 10 will sport new, narrow frame bezels, quad-core Cortex A9 processors and ship with 1GB of RAM.  E FUN will also produce a 7-inch Nextbook, however, that device is expected to launch further into Q1 2014 and is not featured at their booth this week.

The Nextbook 8 has a 7.85” 1024x768 touch screen and 8GB of internal memory while its big brother shows off a 10.1” 1024x600 high definition capacitive touch screen and 16GB of internal memory.

Both devices come pre-loaded with Android Jelly Bean 4.2 installed. Each tablet boasts dual webcams with a 2-megapixel back-facing and 0.3 megapixel front-facing camera, an HDMI-out port, USB 2.0, a built in G sensor, a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery and built in 802.11 b/g/n/ Wi-Fi connection. In addition, all of E FUN's tablet devices will be capable of receiving over-the-air updates.

All 2014 Nextbook tablets will be Google Certified devices, meaning they each come pre-loaded with the standard Google software – Chrome, Drive, G+, Gmail, Maps, Play and Youtube.  They will also come with the Barnes & Noble Nook app so consumers can immediately buy and read their favorite books.

While the specs are nothing to get excited over, those in the market for a mid-range device may find satisfaction in the build quality and price point of E FUN's latest products. The Nextbook 8 and Nextbook 10 will retail for $129.99 and $149.99 respectively.

For those who want a bit more, Polaroid's new Q7, Q8 and Q10 tablets are priced competitively and ship with Android 4.4. KitKat, the latest version of the Android OS.

Other than the newer operating system, however, there is not much in the way of specifications that set Polaroid's latest line of Android devices apart from the Nextbook.

Finally, Acer has updated its Iconia line of budget tablets, running a 1.3GHz processor and an outdated Android 4.2 OS, which the company has gone on record saying it has no plans on updating. The suggest MSRP for Acer's B1-720 is $129.
