Converged IP and Wireless Network Test Solutions Provider Ixia to Acquire Veriwave

Ixia announced that it has inked a definitive agreement to acquire VeriWave, Inc. a performance testing company for wireless LAN (WLAN) and Wi-Fi enabled smart devices. Ixia is a global provider of converged IP and wireless network test solutions.

In a release Atul Bhatnagar, president and CEO of Ixia said, “Equipment manufacturers, enterprises, and carriers alike are looking for a full set of end-to-end solutions that completely test converged Wi-Fi, wired, and 3G/4G ecosystems -- especially for video-savvy applications.”

Devices like smartphones, tablets, and netbooks have boosted customer access demands and QoE expectations in the mobile environment. An increased number of applications and services are located centrally in “the cloud” and accessed remotely from wireless devices via Wi-Fi. Such applications are widespread in healthcare, education, retail, and hospitality industries.

According to VeriWave sources, its wireless test solutions validate Wi-Fi networks, smart devices, and applications by the process of benchmarking and measuring speed, quality, interoperability, compliance, and various other aspects of wireless performance.

In addition, the test solutions verify quality of rich-media experience from end-users, while also simulating realistic and fully-loaded networks in order to test client interaction and performance when traffic conditions change.

“By integrating VeriWave’s portfolio of innovative Wi-Fi testing solutions, Ixia will help ensure that carriers, multi-system operators (MSO), enterprises, and network equipment manufacturers are able to fully support media-rich applications running on all types of wireless smart devices,” Bhatnagar added.

More smartphones and the immense traffic are instigating carriers to combine Wi-Fi and 3G/4G. Wi-Fi traffic offload will ensure that the network infrastructure scales economically. VeriWave sources added that its Wi-Fi capabilities will enable Ixia to provide a comprehensive end-to-end testing platform for converged performance testing.
