GCT Semiconductor Teams Up with NVIDIA to Offer 4G Platform Solution

GCT Semiconductor, a designer and supplier of advanced 4G mobile semiconductor solutions, has teamed up with NVIDIA to offer 4G LTE cost-effective solution for smartphones and tablets users.

Officials at GCT said that they have incorporated the NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, a quad-core mobile processor, and GCT's proven LTE single-chip, GDM7240 in the new solution. This would turn out to be a turnkey reference design for OEMs, which includes LTE and 2G/3G connectivity with high performing multimedia browsing and fast graphics speeds.

“Wireless operators are looking for the best mobile platform solution in terms of speed, connectivity and application processor,” said Dr. Kyeongho “KH” Lee, president and CEO of GCT Semiconductor, Inc.

Kyeongho said that by combining NVIDIA's excellent graphics and display performance with GCT's advanced LTE single-chip solution, they believe that they can provide a very attractive turnkey design for LTE smartphones and tablets and are very pleased to be working with NVIDIA to advance the 4G ecosystem.

This new platform is aimed at OEM and ODMs to enable them improve their time to market mobile devices that fully take advantage of Tegra 3's powerful HD video and console-quality gaming capabilities on 4G LTE networks.

“GCT is one of the leading providers of LTE modem technology,” said Michael Rayfield, general manager of the Mobile Business at NVIDIA. “Bringing together their technology with Tegra 3 helps our partners create quad-core LTE mobile devices that we believe will impress customers with outstanding performance and longer battery life.”

In related news, GCT Semiconductor, Inc. previously introduced WiMAX 2 single-chip, GDM7225, integrating RF, MAC and PHY into a single-chip, with 4x4 Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) system, making high-speed wireless broadband communications four to five times faster than existing WiMAX technology.
