Augme Technologies Picks Up Mobile Technology Patents

Augme Technologies Inc., a firm focused on interactive media marketing, has acquired a series of five issued United States patents related to mobile technology from Geos Communications IP Holdings, Inc.

Among other technologies, the patents relate to practices in Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP).

Those patents are numbers: 7,606,217, named "System and method for routing telephone calls over a voice and data network"; 7,460,480, named "Dynamically adapting the transmission rate of packets in real time VoIP communications to the available bandwidth"; 7,676,599, named "System and method of binding a client to a server"; 7,782,878, named "System and method for sharing an IP address"; and 7,957,401, named "System and method for using multiple communication protocols in memory limited processors."

Augme, which claims to offer the only patented end-to-end mobile marketing and advertising platform, has purchased seven U.S. patent applications from the same seller. It also acquired 18 international pending patent applications in the mobile VoIP field.

The patent acquisition will let it grow its mobile advertising and marketing efforts with a number of new features, according to Augme. These include VoIP-enabled mobile marketing and advertising, and adaptive voice technologies for any mobile environment.

The firm’s Chief Technology Officer, Nathaniel Bradley, said the acquisition will support Augme’s monetization of its Hipcricket operating business and its intellectual property portfolio. It boosts the company’s portfolio to 14 issued patents, and more than 60 pending patents both in the U.S. and internationally.

The company had more reason to celebrate recently when it secured a licensing agreement with LucidMedia. That partnership will lead to the creation of a framework for later patent and brand licensing activities.

Augme’s fourth quarter results showed a significant increase in revenue, jumping 422 percent year-on-year and around 14 percent over the previous quarter to $5 million.
