Lumeta Corporation Makes Move to Back BYOD with Device Profiling

On Tuesday, the Lumeta Corporation announced a big new bid to back up the BYOD--Bring Your Own Device--concept with a new line of device profiling systems called IPsonar to yield an extra note of security for networks facing the challenges BYOD offers.

IPsonar provides rapid identification of devices on IP-based networks, and also shows the points of access--both incoming and outgoing--on the network, which allows IT departments to quickly see potential gaps in network defenses that could stand shoring up. With the rapid identification of the devices in question also comes information about them, providing not only a complete inventory, but also a means to operate both open network ports and SSL certificates.

It's been found, via the Common Criteria system, that Lumeta's IPsonar system meets standards set forth not only by federal civilian agencies, but even those set by the Department of Defense, making the IPsonar system a substantial force for security. Moreover, IPsonar's device profiling system gives an impressive level of visibility throughout the network, thus making the BYOD philosophy more possible than ever, especially in larger organizations that have reason to be concerned about security in the first place.

Lumeta Corporation CEO, Michael Markulec detailed the benefits of IPsonar by saying, "Device profiling delivers on the promise of advanced threat detection that so many enterprises are seeking today. By monitoring the configuration of critical network infrastructure devices, both IT operations and security personnel can now quickly identify threat vulnerabilities and eliminate them in order to substantially reduce risk.”

With the BYOD concept rapidly gaining ground with companies who want to shore up employee morale, as well as provide a way to cut their IT and capital expenses by letting their employees get the hardware for them, it's clear that a way to provide better network security is every bit as necessary as the devices themselves are to the entire concept. Systems like IPsonar look to go a long way in ensuring that, no matter which devices get on the network, they can be easily found and kept under control.
