Tru VoIP App Update May Be Delayed Along with BlackBerry 10 OS

There has been speculation recently that the newest version of Truphone's mobile VoIP app, Tru VoIP, may be delayed on all mobile platforms in order to coincide with the delayed release of BlackBerry 10 in the first quarter of 2013.

Truphone itself has not yet responded to these rumors, but based on the fact that initial reports suggested the app would be available at launch on BlackBerry 10 devices, some are suggesting that Tru VoIP's release may be held back on its other mobile platforms of choice, iOS and Android. Furthermore, some are suggesting that Windows Phone 8 and possibly even Firefox OS may see versions of Tru VoIP at some point.

The new version of Tru VoIP would be a major upgrade, bringing a number of absent features to the version currently available on these platforms' respective app markets. For one thing, the instant messaging portion of the app will be completely removed and replaced with "new features." BlackBerry 10 users can apparently look forward to the ability ot make international calls and text messages over Wi-Fi and 4G/LTE data connections at rates up to 90 percent cheaper than what mobile operators are offering.

Yet the question still remains: Will we be seeing the new version of Tru VoIP this year or early next year? We'll have to just wait and see, it seems.

As for BlackBerry 10, the OS that could make or break RIM has definitely been delayed until early next year — a move which RIM CEO Thorsten Heins says doesn't indicate any hardship at the company. In fact, Heins says that the company isn't in a "death spiral" as so many in the media are keen to suggest.

Indeed, the RIM roadmap does show at least five new BlackBerry 10 devices seeing release next year, some of which will offer a pure touch screen experience while others will sport the keyboard that remains RIM's only real edge over the competition.
