Citrix Reinforces its Enterprise Apple Mobile Base with Reimagined Podio Collaboration Platform and Updated ShareFile App

Looking ahead to the release of iOS 6 and to the new iPhone next week, collaboration and cloud vendor Citrix announced today the release of two major components of its collaboration strategy: a new version of its ShareFile app for iPhone and a completely reimagined version of its Podio collaboration platform for the iPad.

ShareFile makes it easy to access files, share content and collaborate from anywhere securely. Today's release adds new IT control capabilities to ensure the security of company data when accessed from a mobile device and productivity features for users.

Citrix Podio for iPad, is a new and completely reimagined version of the original Podio platform, designed from the ground up to work on the iPad. Citrix acquired Podio back in April 2012, with the goal of enhancing its own mobile-driven collaboration capabilities. At the time of the acquisition more than 40,000 organizations in 170 countries were using Podio’s collaborative work platform.

Podio

The Podio app delivers the means to automate simple tasks and structure lightweight workflows, with simplicity and mobile efficiency specifically in mind. Podio for iPad brings all the power of the collaborative work platform’s Web offering to the iPad’s intuitive interface, with the goal of connecting people, projects, social networks and mobility to unlock the potential of seamless anywhere, anytime work environments.

Podio connects collaboration and business processes through workspaces and apps - more powerful, collaborative and social alternatives to spreadsheets and e-mail. Podio apps are available in the Podio App Market. They can be customized for any type of work using the simple drag and drop Podio App Builder, a tool that enables anyone to create custom apps for their work – whether managing projects, interfacing with clients or partners, planning a conference, coordinating e-mail marketing or receiving customer feedback.

The new Podio for iPad release extends the power of Podio’s core features, including workspaces, tasks, activity streams, meetings and calendars. It also makes more than 700 pre-built apps from the Podio App Market available to iPad users.

Podio for iPad delivers the following set of services and capabilities:

Workspaces – Bring the right team together and collaborate with anyone from anywhere.

Podio Apps – Utilize hundreds of free pre-built apps for handling project management, sales leads, product development, recruiting, CRM and more.

DIY Apps with App Builder – Use App Builder on the Web to create apps that meet specific or unique work requirements. More than 65,000 apps have been built using App Builder. With Podio for iPad, all existing Podio apps are instantly available for the iPad.

ShareFile

Today’s ShareFile app for iPhone release provides Citrix users with the latest in content sharing and security on any iPhone, including the soon-to-be-released next generation iPhone. Businesses of all sizes are now increasingly seeking new ways to keep their workforces connected and productive without tethering them to their desks and laptops.

The Citrix mobile application suite balances connectivity and personal freedom, allowing employees to access everything they need to securely conduct business regardless of whether they are working from home or on the road. Specifically with Citrix ShareFile, users can store, share and sync data across all of their devices. The ShareFile app for iPhone enables secure mobile work styles by providing users with a rich follow-me-data experience while providing IT with the management and control necessary to ensure sensitive corporate data is secure at all times.

New and enhanced FileShare features include the following:

Unauthorized access alert – This new feature tracks files viewed in ShareFile for iPhone (and ShareFile for iPad) after a remote wipe is activated, even when the user is offline. The app generates a log, indicating whether files were viewed so that users can determine whether data was compromised – providing critical insight in the event of a lost or stolen device.

Intelligent device security policies – The new “poison pill” option enables IT to set data expiration policies. Plus, multiple preferences settings allow IT to decide whether files can be opened in third-party applications or saved offline.

Enterprise Active Directory integration – ShareFile for iPhone connects to Active Directory and SAML enterprise identities for a more seamless and secure user experience.

Improved auditing and reporting – Enhanced capabilities help IT to track and log user activity.

Offline access – Advanced options allow users to save files locally for offline access and editing.

Quickoffice integration – Integration with Quickoffice enables users to edit Microsoft Office documents and save them back to ShareFile.

Easy access to multiple accounts – Redesigned interface makes it simple to view multiple ShareFile accounts and folders, providing users with easy access to all of their data.

As mobility continues to drive how businesses run their operations and manage their workforces, especially in light of the need to offer secure BYOD environments, it is incumbent on the vendor community – especially vendors such as Citrix, which has now been entrenched and pervasive in the enterprise for over two decades – to keep up with today's mobile times.

In fact, it is incumbent on such veteran vendors to provide mobility leadership.

With the new releases of Podio for iPad and FileShare for iPhone, Citrix looks, at the very least, to be honoring its commitment to stay ahead of the mobile forces that continue to drive today's enterprises.
