PrepaYd Wireless Now Accepting Select Sprint Devices for Activation

PrepaYd Wireless today has effectively expanded its device lineup by allowing customers to activate a used Sprint device with its wireless service. Obviously, restrictions do apply, but this new policy still marks a significant step forward for the company, while providing customers with greater handset choice.

"We are strong believers that our conservative service prices matched with our new liberal handset policy will attract new subscribers and retail partners," said Josh Berman, president of PrepaYd Wireless, in a statement.

Called the Liberate Your Phone Initiative, this new BYOD program puts a greater amount of freedom in the consumers' hands, not only in terms of device options, but also in terms of overall wireless service. Basically, Sprint customers curious about switching to the PrepaYd network can do so without making any device commitments.

Since the program is brand new, PrepaYd is encouraging consumers to visit an Authorized Retailer to learn more about the program, as well as to see which devices are compatible with the program. The company hasn't stated whether it will make this information available on its website, but it seems likely a full device compatibility list will make an appearance at some point.

Obviously, not every single Sprint handset is eligible for activation by PrepaYd Wireless and the company also warns that some features on some devices may not work properly when activated with PrepaYd. However, seeing as how PrepaYd operates on the Sprint network, issues should be fairly minimal.

In August, a mysterious website was created and an e-mail was sent out stating that PrepaYd Wireless has merged with Zapp Unlimited, both of which were later proven false. It's still unclear how the whole situation came about.

In June, PrepaYd upgraded its plans, including international text messaging on all Y Plans at no extra charge. As such, both sent and received international text messages will not result in additional fees applied to customers.
