New Mobile Apps from YouSendIt

YouSendit, Inc. is a digital file delivery company in California founded in 2004. It gives users the ability to send, receive and track files on demand. In 2011, the company added the option of being able to share folders and sign documents. The sender can enter the recipients' e-mail addresses, attach the file and send it. The recipients receive an e-mail notification with a Web address that lets them download the file.

On January 22, 2012, YouSendIt, Inc. launched new mobile apps for Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 and the iPhone. These are in addition to its list of business desktop, Web and mobile apps. A lot of work has gone into redesigning the apps from the ground up. This was done to meet the needs of the growing mobile user base. As you can imagine, since these are mobile apps they have included more protection against the growing security risks associated with mobile file sharing.

Everything is moving at a very quick pace. The business professional needs to shuffle Information faster every day. This new suite of mobile apps was designed for that purpose. Unfortunately, as more sensitive information finds its way through the cloud, so does the threat of viruses. Blue Coat is a California based provider of Web security and WAN optimization solutions. According to a recent study conducted by Blue Coat, 88 percent of users feel that they are secure enough. Having managed several IT departments, I have to agree with the 77 percent who see the risk of malware spreading to corporate networks through mobile devices as being very high.

YouSendIt has completely rebuilt the iOS app. Users can do everything from sending and storing files to sharing folders and signing documents using their iPhones. Any changes or updates are securely synced and immediately available for access by other devices. The iPhone app is the newest addition to the recently launched Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 and Samsung S-pen apps.

YouSendIt Chief Product Officer, Matte Scheinker said, “Seventy-five percent of businesses allow employees to use their personal mobile devices for work purposes. These employees want to use their favorite productivity tools like YouSendIt, while CIOs need to ensure the security of the company’s data however people access it. Our YouSendIt mobile apps provide both the simple document management solutions demanded by employees and the robust security required by the business. They’re loved by users and approved by IT.”

Bryan Biniak, the vice president and general manager of Global Partner and Application Development at Nokia, said, “We are very excited about the YouSendIt Windows Phone 8 app developed between YouSendIt, Microsoft and Nokia. The YouSendIt app with Near Field Communication (NFC) delivers powerful sharing capabilities to Nokia consumers and businesses. The app provides Lumia users a seamless solution for sharing files anytime, anywhere. Add in unique, exclusive features like NFC and Nokia Lumia owners can share content with a simple tap of their phones.”

YouSendIt has put a lot of effort into rebuilding its mobile apps to make them accessible to just about any smartphone and tablet on the market, while at the same time making them secure to use. The apps work on all the mobile operating systems. YouSendIt’s new iOS, Windows 8, Window Phone 8 and Samsung S-Pen mobile apps are free to download from the Apple Store, Windows Store, Windows Phone Store and Samsung Apps Store.
