Saguna Networks Partners with Ubiquisys to Optimize Mobile Data

Specialist suppliers of radio access network (RAN) application platforms are seeing a growing trend to carry out functions such as content cashing as close to the user as possible. After all, there is a huge demand to accelerate mobile content delivery across HSPA and LTE networks. One of those suppliers, Saguna Networks, is teaming up with small cells vendor Ubiquisys to provide integrated content and application acceleration for mobile network operators.

The partnership will combine Saguna's CODS delivery content optimization platform with Ubiquisys' smart cell which features a range of intelligent 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi hotspots. Together the solution features content and DNS caching while embedding cloud content and application processing resources.

”This is yet another example of the power of moving application processing resources to the network edge, closer to mobile users,” said Pete Keevill, vice president of Engineering and co-founder of Ubiquisys.

For many years, mobile content delivery has remained a challenge for service providers and by combining a cellular/Wi-Fi hotspot with an x86-based computer to carry out processing close to the end-user, Saguna hopes to show providers that it is possible to simultaneously reduce traffic while improving the end-user experience.

“Our joint solution delivers all of our product features in a constrained space and power environment and guarantees the best mobile broadband experience without the need for large investments,” added Lior Fite, CEO at Saguna Networks.

Last year, Saguna integrated CODS with The Netherland's Jet-Stream VideoExchange delivery network and increased intelligence at the network edge. In November, backhaul firm ADVA Optical Networking opted to take a 10 percent stake in Saguna, which says it could get its caching functionality into backhaul switches inexpensively, allowing carriers to achieve a holistic view of traffic across various elements of the network.

Saguna Networks and Ubiquisys will be presenting their joint solution at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this month.
