Launch of Rich Communication Services is Faster with Lower Upfront Costs Thanks to SAP

SAP AG is a German multinational software corporation that makes enterprise software to manage business operations and customer relations. Its headquarters are in Walldorf, Germany, with a subsidiary called SAP North America headquartered in Newtown Square, PA.

Mobile World Congress 2013 in Barcelona, Spain has reported today that SAP announced the launch of their cloud-based SAP Rich Communication Services 365 (SAP RCS 365) mobile service.

According to SAP, RCS 365 makes services, such as instant messaging, video and file sharing as simple and intuitive as sending a text message. It also enables mobile operators to create new innovative services and respond to competition in our ever expanding mobile ecosystem.

John Sims, president, SAP Mobile Services said, "User behavior and expectations have dramatically changed with the emergence of smartphone and tablet experiences. In today's evolving mobile environment, operators are being threatened by new competitors offering innovative IP-based services. They must respond by rethinking their business models and innovating new service offerings. SAP RCS 365 arms mobile operators to quickly and cost-effectively launch such services while the SAP IPX 365 mobile service allows them to be interconnected to our ecosystem of mobile operators around the world."

By creating what SAP sees as a “pay as you go/grow” model, it believes mobile operators can avoid both the complexity of deploying SAP RCS 365 within their networks and the capital expenditure that is normally associated with the standard approach.

They can then reduce the time it takes to get to market by removing the need for investment and resource-intensive changes to their core networks.

SAP has chosen Mavenir Systems to provide the full SAP RCS 365 capabilities. Mavenir Systems provides software-based networking solutions that enable mobile service providers to deliver IP-based voice, video and enhanced messaging services such as RCS 5.0.

The latest offering from SAP would make this RCS 5.1.

Pardeep Kohli, president and CEO at Mavenir Systems said, "Mavenir's RCS 5 solution capitalizes on the operators' core strengths of ubiquity, reliability and reach. Together with SAP, we are providing a common approach to new value-added services that mobile operators can offer on existing 3G or LTE networks."

SAP Mobile Services helps businesses process 1.8 billion messages per day, reaching more than 980 operators and 5.8 billion subscribers across 210 countries. SAP Mobile Services is a division of SAP AG, and a global icon in mobile interconnection and mobile consumer engagement services. It provides mobile operators with capabilities in global messaging interconnect, data roaming and an array of IPX based services.

The department enables enterprises to engage with their consumers through innovative mobile marketing and communication solutions.
