Teaser Video from Samsung Unpacks the Galaxy S4

On February 25, 2013 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, Samsung Electronics announced that it would unveil the Galaxy S4. Today it was confirmed by CNET that Samsung would indeed be launching its next flagship smartphone. The event will take place in New York City in about a week and a half on March 14, 2013.

JK Shin, mobile chief at Samsung confirmed that the event would be taking place in New York City. This makes it the first time an Unpack event is being held in the U.S. since the original Galaxy S was announced in 2010. For those who did not get their invitation, Samsung will be streaming the entire event live on YouTube.

While it’s true that quite a few hardware OEMs have announced new Android phones at the Mobile World Congress, the Galaxy S4 (also written as S IV) is probably the most anticipated phone announced that everyone is anxious to see.

Not much has been revealed about the Galaxy S4. There are rumors suggesting that the new smartphone might have an eight core Exynos 5 Octa processor, although there is some question as to whether a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor will be used instead. The unit will also have a separate eight core graphics processor and a 4.99 inch Super Amoled full HD resolution display. In addition, it may also have 2GB of RAM, a rear facing 13 megapixel camera that is capable of shooting 1080p HD videos at 30FPS. There would also be a two megapixel front facing camera capable of creating 720p HD videos. The entire package would run on the Android 4.2.2, also referred to as Jelly Bean operating system. This comes unpacked right out of the box.

It does seem like quite a bit of information when you list it all. However, these are just hardware items, what the OS will do is something that we will all have to wait until March 14 to see.

Speaking of unpacking, Samsung has posted a video, which you can see by clicking here. The video shows a rather wealthy little boy named Jeremy Maxwell. According to Samsung, Jeremy will be the “secret messenger” for its Unpack Event. In a large conference room with only Jeremy and an adult, he is given a box. The box is marked UN PACKED, when he opens the lid a little bit, a glow comes from instead. He signed a non-disclosure agreement so he can’t tell anyone what he saw. He takes the box home and the video ends with “to be continued.”

It will be exciting to see exactly what Samsung decides to include in the Galaxy S4. There may be some competition from the rumored Motorola X Phone. Google is hoping that this will give both Samsung and Apple a run for their money.
