HTC One Gets April 19 Launch Date on AT&T Network

HTC seemed like it was in a bit of trouble when it missed the original March launch date for its new flagship smartphone, the HTC One, in the U.S. The delay was caused by shortages of certain components — namely the phone's metal casing and parts of its camera — and it was speculated that launching the device after the Samsung Galaxy S 4 could lead to fewer sales for the One.

However, AT&T today announced that the HTC One will be officially released on April 19, narrowly beating the Galaxy S 4 to store shelves. The wireless carrier also announced that it will launch an exclusive 64 GB variant of the One, as well as the 32 GB version that will be available from other U.S. carriers.

AT&T will start taking pre-orders for the device on April 4 at 1:00 p.m. CT. Customers who pre-order the One will also receive a free HTC Media Link HD wireless HDMI adaptor, enabling wireless content sharing with any HD television.

The HTC One is available in either black or silver and features a 1.7-GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, a 4.7-inch full HD 1080p screen and a zero-gap aluminum unibody design that is both sleek and durable.

On the software side, the smartphone will run Android Jelly Bean with the latest version of HTC's Sense user interface, Sense 5.0.

Sense 5.0 includes a number of exclusive features, such as HTC BlinkFeed, which offers customized content and real-time updates right on the homescreen, aggregating content from a number of media sources.

HTC Zoe, meanwhile, is a camera mode that allows for quick and easy capture of three-second videos that can be displayed in a "living gallery."

The One's HTC UltraPixel Camera will make sure these clips are extremely clear even in low lighting conditions, as it gathers 300 percent more light than typical smartphone camera sensors.

Finally, the HTC One will also have access to special AT&T features like AT&T DriveMode, which aims to reduce texting and driving, and AT&T Ready2Go, which helps users setup their device quickly with the help of a computer.
