T-Mobile to Back Up iPhone 5 Offers with New Trade-In Deal

T-Mobile has been eager to shake up the wireless concept and give itself a bit of an edge from its current position on the mobile provider totem pole. To that end, starting this Friday when the iPhone 5 arrives at T-Mobile, it will be backing up its already impressive iPhone 5 pricing scheme with a special trade-in offer to help encourage users to step in and get their hands on one of the biggest new mobile phones around.

The deal, according to T-Mobile's Chief Marketing Officer Mike Sievert, is specifically geared toward those owners who still haven't made the switch to iPhone 5 devices from the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S. Under the terms of the deal, which is slated to run until Father's Day on June 16, customers can trade in the two aforementioned Apple devices on a new iPhone 5 that can then be had for no down payment as well as a Simple Choice Plan. Depending on the version of the devices brought in and the condition in which they arrive, customers can get as much as a $120 trade-in credit, which can then be used for making monthly payments, paying down a current bill from T-Mobile, or buying accessories or other devices from T-Mobile's retail arm.

For those not getting involved with the trade-in, iPhone 5 models can also be purchased directly starting April 12 at nine in the morning. Said models will sell at $99.99 down and $20 a month for 24 months with the Simple Choice Plan, depending of course on credit rating and the like.

The Simple Choice plan, meanwhile, offers distinct advantages of its own. Starting at a base rate of $50 a month, users get unlimited talk and text as well as 500MB of data at 4G speeds. An additional $10 a month adds two gigabytes of data and unlimited data can be had for an extra $20 a month, with both prices being per line. A second phone line can be added for $30 a month and additional lines from there are an extra $10 a month, with no caps and no overages.

T-Mobile is offering a good deal here indeed, with great pricing coupled onto a popular phone. But considering that the iPhone 5 has already been out at competitors' locations for the better part of a year now, it may come as a bit limited in effect. T-Mobile could certainly use a shot in the arm, however with the company still at last report well behind Verizon, AT&T and Sprint in the market. For those looking to get in on one of the biggest new phone releases in a while though, this may be the shot that they've been waiting for.

A good deal will be available at T-Mobile within the end of this week, but only time will tell if it's a deal sufficient to give itself new customers.
