Wandera Launches First Corporate Mobile Data Optimization Service

Wandera is a company that is based in both San Francisco, CA and London, U.K. It is a baby as far as companies go, being founded in 2012. Since then, however, Wandera has become a pioneer and a provider of Mobile Data Optimization (MDO), providing companies with control and visibility of their mobile data usage.

Wabdera’s proprietary cloud data compression and processing engine is what powers its MDO. The fact that the MDO can work behind the scenes without changing the user experience is another feature. It designed its products to be scalable and optimized to process billions of daily mobile data requests, all while being easy to deploy.

Recently, we have talked about how large mobile data traffic is already getting. In fact, this past Friday I wrote an article about it in our Mobility TechZone section. Wandera just announced that it is launching its MDO service, which helps businesses manage this explosion of mobile data usage.

Wandera founder and CEO, Eldar Tuvey, commented, "Globally, businesses spent $29 billion on roaming data charges alone in 2012. With employees migrating from desktops to mobile devices, businesses need a solution that helps them manage their data costs and usage without harming employee productivity. We've designed Wandera from the ground up to do just that."

Its cloud platform utilizes adaptive data compression and real-time processing. This, in turn, dramatically reduces a company’s mobile data usage and speed by almost 60 percent. Wandera’s MDO works for mobile devices anywhere in the world.

Bessemer Venture Partners (BVP) is a worldwide venture capital firm with offices in several U.S. states as well as across the world. BVP provides an extensive platform in venture capital spanning across different industries, geographies and stages of company growth.

Wandera was happy to also announce that BVP has given it $7 million in funding. This venture capital is designated for Wandera’s launch and global expansion. BVP has deep cloud and mobile experience that comes from backing companies such as Skype, Broadsoft, Intucell, Box and LinkedIn.

BVP partner Adam Fisher said, "Companies around the world have embraced a multi-screen approach, using smartphones as a key productivity tool, but often paying exorbitant bills due to roaming charges. Wandera's cloud solution is addressing this very real pain point faced by businesses, delivering greater visibility into mobile data use and a clear ROI (Return on Investment)."

Following up on Fisher’s comments, Nick McQuire, vice president of Mobile Enterprise Strategies at global advisory firm IDC, said, "With the rapid explosion in mobile data usage, Mobile Data Optimization (MDO) is becoming an increasingly vital tool for managing and reporting on mobile data usage in the enterprise."

We can all see how productivity can increase through the use of mobile devices; they offer considerable gains for a company. However the problem is the cost it also brings to the company. If not kept in check, this cost can quickly spiral out of control.

Wandera’s real-time analytics engine gives businesses the opportunity to get a completely comprehensive picture of how the mobile devices are being used. This insight can then be used to make sure that the company is providing its employees with the most efficient and productive tools possible.

Mobile data traffic will only continue to grow. As more companies allow, and more employees bring their own devices (BYOD) into the business world, more tools will be needed to manage and maintain the usage and cost. Wandera seems to working in the right direction with their MDO.
