Vox Increases Availability in Samsung App Store

Cloud-based voice and video communications, apps and services provider Vox Communications has now expanded the reach of its Android mobile VoIP calling app to all devices that have access to the Samsung App store. The Vox app first saw limited availability in the Samsung App store back in November but availability was expanded to 13 new countries in April, including the United States.

With this expanded availability, over a billion devices now have access to Vox's "Pay and Go" subscription-free calling plans. These plans can be topped-off on the go with amounts as little as a dollar while allowing users to place calls anywhere in the world without having to pay a monthly subscription fee.

According to VoX's chief information officer, Mark Richards, having access to more devices has already had a significant impact on Vox app interest and use.

"We added 13 more countries in April including the U.S. and are happy to report a 25% increase in downloads from the Samsung store in the last 30 days," said Richards in a statement. "We attribute this largely to the size of the growing U.S. market, and the recent phenomenal success of the Samsung Galaxy S III and Samsung's most recent flagship, the Galaxy S4."

The Vox app is also available to Android devices from other manufacturers through the Google Play store.

In February, the company added free video calling to its Android VoIP calling app, following an initial release on the Amazon App Store. This functionality is apparently built around WebRTC.

The introduction of video calling and expanded availability are part of Vox's strategy to increase its user base as, according to Richards, its competitors "have achieved staggering numbers of subscribers, not because they have a better App, but simply more marketing dollars." As far as plans go, increasing availability and functionality of the Vox app is a solid one.
