SecureAuth IdP 7.0 Released, Improving BYOD Security

As more businesses begin to implement bring-your-own-device (BYOD) initiatives, there is a greater need for companies to produce security solutions tailored to workplaces with that particular policy. One of the biggest downsides to BYOD is the additional security risk posed by having private company data accessible on so many different devices, both in and out of the office. SecureAuth’s launch of SecureAuth IdP 7.0 targets this particular issue in a unique manner.

Garret Grajek, CTO of SecureAuth, explains that “the added authentication provided by SecureAuth IdP 7.0 is similar to giving users and their devices a fingerprint that is unique to only them.” This so-called fingerprint is composed of up to 14 different criteria, such as variations to browser specifications and IP address. The IT department of the business running the identity management software can choose which criteria to use and how strict the security should be. This fingerprint is used to authenticate the user, preventing hackers and malware from accessing secure data.

SecureAuth provides single-sign-on, which allows employees working at a business with a BYOD policy to log on only once in order to access all their applications, a move which saves time and prevents hassle and unnecessary security risks.

Although the number of companies supporting BYOD initiatives is growing, with 61 percent of small and medium businesses currently implementing it, a surprising amount of companies do not implement the necessary security measures.  The most significant reason for this is that many companies feel that they are not at a great security risk. Additionally, the IT departments of many companies are reluctant to add more complications to the workplace, feeling that BYOD presents enough technical problems as is; only 17 percent of IT professionals describe themselves as “fully embracing” the BYOD trend.

Recognized by Network World as being the easiest solution to manage and deploy, SecureAuth IdP 7.0 could convince more businesses and IT professionals to consider implementing additional identity enforcement technology.
