Update to Wowza's GoCoder App Offers a Portable Live Streaming Solution for iPad Users

Wowza Media Systems, LLC delivers on-demand and live streaming video over any Internet-connected device (e.g., computers, smartphones, tablets, IPTV set-top boxes and OTT endpoints); the company uses media streaming software that offers reliable, dependable and uninterrupted media delivery that is simple, efficient and cost-effective.

The media server software company provides simply powerful streaming that people can depend upon. As a matter of fact, every year from 2007, it has been recognized as one of America’s leading providers of high-value unified streaming media and video.

At present, it is ranked as one of the Top 100 Companies “That Matter Most in Online Video” by Streaming Media magazine; plus for a sixth year in a row it has received the prestigious Streaming Media European Readers' Choice Award in the Server Hardware/Software category. All the more, even the Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Wowza, Charlie Good, has been named to Streaming Media Magazine's 2013 Streaming Media All-Stars Team.

The company’s flagship product is the Wowza Media Server; its current version is 3.6.2, build 5334, released on June 10, 2013. It is a platform that supports Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems and Java Runtime environments. The streaming software is available in a variety of licensing options: Daily, Monthly or Perpetual edition are the choices.

For an easy-to-use mobile encoding application solution, the company has its popular GoCoder app that brings live video/audio streaming to the iPad at full HD quality (up to 720p) – now available is the updated GoCoder app, Version: 1.1.0, for purchase from the iTunes App Store for less than $5.00.

The updated version was released by Wowza Media System and has been advertised by Apple since July 2nd. In contrast, this is an iPad specific version of the application which is also compatible with iPhone 3GS or newer (i.e., 4, 4S, and iPhone 5); whereas, the previous app was only launched for the iPhone – it had been released in April.

Wowza’s newest GoCoder App for iOS users has a few upgrades too, such as an orientation that can be in portrait mode. There is also a push notification suppression feature to enable “Do Not Disturb” when streaming. Furthermore, it has been optimized to form an end-to-end system with the current version of Wowza Media Server.

Here is an app that benefits those that want to broadcast HD quality live events on-the-go from any location on to their iPad or iPhone screen using H.264 video, AAC audio, and adaptive bitrate streaming. The multimedia content can be sent over Wi-Fi or cellular connections (both 3G and 4G connections), in real-time.

With this release of the new GoCoder app, if the end-user wants to record live broadcasts, all that must be done is to route live content, using either TCP or UDP transports, to connect to the Wowza Media Server in order to have the streamed content sent to their preferred Apple device. The process is virtually stress free and offers complete security too using RTSP authentication; The Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) is what is used to control streaming.

What’s more, the GoCoder app offers an intuitive, contextual interface that lets users choose video filters (B/W, blur, B/W+blur). It even has a manual bit-rate streaming selection; a touch-to-focus and touch-to-expose capabilities to help keep videoing agile and is able to have users utilize torch mode—this determines whether the flash is on or off—for constant lighting.

Consumers may find this a useful mobile iOS app for streaming audio or video; it is sure to suit their needs and budgets. Besides, it has a variety of stream or session-specific settings and a series of in-app filters to choose from.
