Integrating an App with Dropbox Just Got Easier

Dropbox has been growing at a rapid rate, and a recent announcement at its first-ever developer’s conference, DBX, has set the company up to see even more success. In an expansion of Dropbox Sync API, which was released earlier this year, Dropbox Platform was released in order to make the integration of Dropbox with other apps more simple and developer-friendly.

According to an article from CRN, Dropbox Platform will include two drop-ins, which are essentially pre-built components for app developers to use. The two drop-ins are Chooser and Saver. Saver will enable app users to save their files to Dropbox, while Chooser will let them retrieve their files. The interesting part about the drop-ins isn’t necessarily in their functionality, but in their ease of use; developers will be able to use these to integrate their apps with Dropbox in a matter of only minutes.

By enabling developers to integrate their apps with Dropbox more easily, Dropbox isn’t only increasing its user base, but also allowing users to do more with their apps. By giving them the option to store files in Dropbox as opposed to storing them on the phone itself, they have the ability to do things that would have eaten up excessive space on their phones before.

The Dropbox Platform is already being put to use, despite its being announced only last week. TextMe has announced its integration with Dropbox, and will allow users to access their Dropbox files in order to share them with other people via text messages. Whereas before, users would have had to download their files from Dropbox then go to the TextMe app to send the message, they will now be able to do both steps without ever leaving the TextMe app.
