Globecomm Systems is a communications solutions provider that seems to cover the whole gamut of wireless communications, including satellite communications systems and wireless base stations. However, with mobile data networks receiving most of the attention these days, the company's 4G LTE solutions are often given the spotlight as a result.
When people think of LTE, they first think of speed. Network operators, on the other hand, also need to consider network capacity, cost and a number of other factors. Globecomm understands this.
For example, at last year's CTIA, the company launched a 4G switching solution for cellular operators designed to save time and money. These operators can use the solution to create LTE networks, as well as deploy voice over LTE (VoLTE) and other IMS-related services, with reduced costs, but without making any tradeoffs in terms of network security, control, visibility or reliability.
At CTIA 2013 this year, Globecomm was on the conference floor yet again, which isn't surprising as the company has attended the event for the last 10 years or so. MobilityTechzone had the opportunity to talk to Globecomm's director of North American sales for Wireless, Brett Calder, at the event, who discussed the company's role in wireless switching.
"Taking operators from a 2G or a 3G network into 4G using LTE technology is what we're here to talk about at this show," said Calder. He went on to add that Globecomm announced several new customers at the show.
Indeed, the company won contracts with Chariton Valley, Evolve Broadband and Indigo Wireless around that time to provide a cost-effective, efficient path to 4G LTE. Specifically, as Calder put it, Globecomm reduces the overall capital required to make this transition, while making a team of engineers and project managers available to bring the network up more quickly.
