2,000 BlackBerry Q10 Smartphones Upgrade Univsion's Mobile Fleet

Just when you start to question what is going on with BlackBerry you hear, "The new BlackBerry 10 operating system is an enterprise-friendly and enterprise-ready platform for getting things done. BlackBerry has listened to the functionality we have asked for and continues to develop products that enable Univision to support employees working remotely."

These were the words of Univision CIO Christopher Furst. Univision Communications Inc. is a media company that serves the Hispanic American community, and is the most watched Spanish language broadcast TV network in the country.

On August 26, it announced that it has purchased 2,000 BlackBerry Q10 smartphones. This purchase will upgrade all of the corporate-issued BlackBerry smartphones that the company is currently using.

Univision considers BlackBerry to be the backbone of its enterprise mobility and app development roadmap. With more than 130 combined TV and radio stations, Univision is quite spread out. It is also offering new BlackBerry 10 apps on the BlackBerry World storefront.

Using the Q10 makes an easy transition for Univision’s employees. They are comfortable with the older model devices that use the QWERTY keypad. Upgrading its entire mobile fleet with QWERTY keypad Q10 will allow the employees to continue to be productive.

There is a slight learning curve on the functionality of using BlackBerry 10, but using the familiar design with the added touchscreen capabilities allows everyone to be more efficient. They seem to like the super-fast browsing and Documents To Go.

This allows customers to update charts within spreadsheets. It also gives them the ability to edit documents and give interactive presentations. Univision is also taking full advantage of BlackBerry Balance. This enables the employees to use one phone for both work and personal data keeping both secure.

Stephen Bates, senior vice president of global enterprise accounts at BlackBerry said "At BlackBerry, our goal is to arm enterprise customers such as Univision with a mobile platform that keeps them moving and connected to their business. Univision has an international, fast-paced workforce and that's why they chose BlackBerry 10 as their mobile device platform. The BlackBerry Q10 smartphone's advanced hardware, communications and multimedia features, along with long battery life, means employees can confidently stay ahead and take action all day long."

BlackBerry is exhibiting at booth 708 as a Gold Sponsor at this week’s ITEXPO Las Vegas, held Aug. 26-29 in Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. At the event, BlackBerry’s senior manager of enterprise accounts, John Cash, will be delving deeper into the world of BYOD in a panel session called “The Multiple Personas of BYOD,” held Tuesday, Aug. 27 from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m. Cash will also be speaking in a panel entitled “Making Tablets a Part of Your Business Toolkit” from 10 to 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday Aug. 28.
