Apple & Burberry Show Off Photo Power of iPhone 5S

Taking pictures has been a big part of the iPhone experience for some time, with some even suggesting that the rise of the iPhone—and similar camera phones—has contributed to the decline of the stand-alone digital camera for many users. But as big a part of the experience as photography used to be, it's only gotten bigger since, and just how big was made perfectly clear as Apple's iPhone 5S joined the Burberry experience and snapped some shots at a big Burberry shoot.

Burberry took the iPhone 5S—which hits stores this Friday—to shoot a variety of pictures, as well as video, at the Spring / Summer show out in London. The results of said shooting can be spotted out at Burberry's website, which actually includes a complete video stream of the event, shot at last report with just the iPhone 5S' native video app, backed up only by FiLMiC Pro and TurtleHead Pro. There were, additionally, some shots taken earlier on the iPhone 5S that were adjusted with gel filters, so some wonder how the two compare when stacked up. Another feature that got a good run-through at the Burberry event was the ability to slow down video, which proved especially useful while filming the show's close, featuring a rain of flower petals from the ceiling.

But as fashionable as the iPhone 5S and Burberry were, it wasn't the only device to get fashion credibility. Recently Google Glass got a workout filming some behind-the-scenes excitement with Diane Von Furstenberg, and Dana Lorenz recently brought out a line of jewelry geared toward the Samsung Galaxy Gear. The idea of technology as fashion accessory isn't exactly new, but it does seem to be getting a little extra play these days. Given the rise of wearable technology overall, it's not too surprising to see technology be considered at least an accessory of sorts—indeed, higher-grade technology can be something of a status symbol, so why not incorporate it into fashion?--but still, seeing it so aggressively take a part in fashion is something of a surprise. Especially considering that the iPhone 5S really isn't a wearable device at all. But then, this is really more about showing off the power of the iPhone 5S' photographic capabilities than it is showing off the iPhone 5S as a fashion accessory.

Regardless, the key point here is that the iPhone 5S is bringing out a very impressive overall picture when it comes to taking pictures and video, keeping up part of a trend that's been going on for some time. Clearly, stand-alone digital cameras are going to be hard-pressed to keep up in the face of these developments, and may well be on the way out for good. The iPhone 5S, meanwhile, won't be falling down on the job when it comes to photography, putting up impressive—some might even say professional-grade—images before it even hits shelves.
