LoJack for Android Mobile Devices Launched in the UK

The price of smartphones and tablets is a considerable investment, and depending on the brand and model it can be quite expensive. This fact is not lost on criminals who specifically target people carrying these devices. Whether the device is lost or stolen, owners have to implement security measures to ensure the data in their device can be accessed remotely and disabled. Absolute Software, which provides the Absolute Computrace and LoJack for Laptops for theft protection and theft recovery for laptops and desktop computers, is introducing the UK launch of LoJack for mobile devices for Android smartphones and tablets.

The service is currently available for the Samsung GALAXY S4 and Samsung GALAXY Tab 3 10.1-inch. As the first consumer theft recovery solution for android smartphones, LoJack for mobile devices is going to be using the same technology used for laptops and desktops to recover mobile devices. Once the platform is installed on a device by the user and activated, it cannot be disabled or removed even with a factory reset.

When a mobile device protected with LoJack is stolen, the Absolute Investigations and Recovery Services team will work with law enforcement globally in order to recover the item. The owner can remotely lock, locate, and delete data on the device as soon as it is missing in order to protect sensitive information.

The collaboration between Absolute Software and Samsung is a global partnership in which the mobile device manufacturer has embedded the patented Absolute technology into some of its mobile devices.

As bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policies are implemented in more organizations, the assets contained in mobile devices become even more valuable. In order to ensure the device meets risk management and compliance regulations for the endpoint, the right security protocols must be applied. By securing all of the Samsung devices from a single cloud-based console, individual owners as well as organizations will be able to control the device from any location and receive notifications if the device is at risk.

"Smartphone theft is a worldwide epidemic; I appreciate Samsung for working with us to take steps to stop this serious issue using Absolute persistence technology. With Absolute persistence technology embedded in Samsung GALAXY S4 smartphones, the owner can activate the 'kill switch' and with LoJack for Mobile Devices tracking and location solution those responsible for theft can be identified or located and held accountable,” said Mark Grace, Vice President, Consumer at Absolute Software.
