InterDigital and Teltronic Enter Patent License Agreement for 4G Technologies

Until 5G comes along, fourth generation (4G) cellular technology will be able to handle the capacity gains it has made over the previous generation technology to deal with the ever increasing proliferation of smart mobile devices and the bandwidth they devour. Although full deployment of long term evolution (LTE) is still some time away, in areas where it is available the end-to-end Internet Protocol (IP) connectivity is meeting the challenge. InterDigital, developer of fundamental wireless technologies that are at the core of mobile devices, networks, and services around the world, and Teltronic S.A., designer and manufacturer of mission-critical radio communications equipment and systems have agreed to a global, non-exclusive, royalty-bearing patent license agreement for 4G and LTE technologies.

InterDigital is recognized around the world for solving critical and complex challenges and inventing solutions years ahead of market deployment with more efficient broadband networks and richer multimedia delivery.

The company has around 200 engineers in its research and development team inventing advanced technologies to provide solutions so others can thrive in their respective field by licensing its solutions across the industry. By focusing on connectivity, power management, spectrum use and data architecture, the company is able to provide applications to infrastructure, devices and application delivery.

InterDigital has established licensing and strategic relationships with leading manufacturers, infrastructure providers and operators around the world. This has resulted in one of the most remarkable patent portfolios in the industry with close to 20,000 US and foreign patents and patent applications as of June 30, 2012, while adding an additional 1,000 worldwide patents and applications to its portfolio this year.

The global licensing expertise of InterDigital has allowed it to establish agreement s covering several standards with close to 40 manufacturers of wireless equipment including, Apple, LG, NEC, Sharp, Research in Motion, Ericsson, High Tech Computer, Nokia, Samsung and Sony-Ericsson.

"This Agreement will allow Teltronic to offer licensed 4G wireless solutions for the mission-critical radio communications equipment and systems it sells to its customers worldwide. As a company with many years of telecommunications experience, we are pleased Teltronic has recognized the value of our 4G patent portfolio," said Lawrence F. Shay, President of InterDigital's patent holding subsidiaries.

For more than three decades, Teltronic has been providing radio and mobile broadband solutions. The company has more than 300 systems in operation in 50 countries in a variety of sectors including, education, industry, mining, oil and gas, public safety and law enforcement, public transport and others.
