ION Audio Sets Out to Enhance the Tech You Have

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), there are plenty of exhibitors featuring audio speakers, Bluetooth-enabled sound systems and tech accessories, so they face the challenge of trying to differentiate themselves and their products. Not ION Audio.

ION Audio is a provider of app accessories and portable audio solutions, among others. It offers everything from speaker systems with built-in light shows to gaming accessories. At CES this week in Las Vegas, I met with Eric Palonen, marketing manager for ION Audio, to see some of its 20 new products firsthand.

The Block Party Bluetooth portable speaker system includes a built-in light show with two different modes: Regular party mode or beat mode, which displays lights in beat with the music playing. The rechargeable battery lasts up to seven hours when playing lights and music (up to 75 for just music), and it has a 100-foot Bluetooth range.

Along with the Block Party is Sound Lounge, which integrates a speaker system into an Ottoman. It also streams music via Bluetooth, and up to four Sound Lounges can be paired together in a room.

Palonen also demonstrated Air Copy, a high-resolution wireless scanner for tablets, desktops and mobile devices. The scanner can process anything from traditional 8.5” x 11”-inch papers to business card-sized documents. I watched the scanner process a photo, a business card and a regular document to a smartphone.  The product is fast and produces very high-quality images. The documents can also be saved as either JPEG or PDF files.

The product is perfect for a lot of different use cases, but he says it’s particularly popular among “MommyTech” companies and business travelers. It generates its own Wi-Fi and works with an app on mobile devices. It’s compatible with iOS, Android, Mac, Windows and more.

Last but not least, the company offers a cassette adapter, which is designed for older cars that still include tape players. Drivers can pop in the adapter and stream music or phone calls via Bluetooth, merging old vehicles with new technology.

With a wide range of products and accessories, Palonen explains the company aims to provide products that enhance the technology people already have, and simplifies their lives. The company likes to say, “Life is better with ION.”

Its products are available online, as well as from retailers such as Amazon, Costco and Best Buy.
